Today, I’m excited to announce that Oscar Miranda has been named partner at Funky Farm Productions. For not only our events but now the record label as well. He will hold the role and title of A&R (Artist & Repertoire).
Oscar has already played an instrumental role here over the last 10 years. DJing at our very first event in 2010. An LA underground loft party called “Funk It”. And from then, continued a residence which turned into a partnership on the event production side of things.
Now, as the other half of him and my production/DJ duo Rare Static, he’s had a big hand in producing the last three releases. Two of them being our EPs.
So this move is not a HUGE surprise and one that just makes sense. Basically he’ll be taking on more responsibility and more say when it comes to the label.
Music has always played a big part in Oscar’s life, with roots in Latin, Hip Hop, Disco, Soul, and Oldies. He’s been a staple in the Bay Area House Music scene for nearly two decades. Working at iconic Primal Records from 2002-2004. He’s held residencies at Hector Moralez’s “Get Underground” and “The Jump Off” in San Francisco, and the “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” undergrounds in Oakland. Playing alongside the likes of DJ Sneak, Phil Weeks, Diz, Wally Callerio, Steve Loria, Gene Farris, Tony Hewitt, and Rasoul to name a few. He’s also released music on Phil Weeks’ Robsoul Recordings, Hector Moralez’s Minority Music, and The Factory.
With his background, his network, House Music acumen, incredible skills behind the decks and in the studio, as well as his ear for great music, he has the tools to be A&R. I’m confident great things will come out of this partnership.
On a personal level, Oscar’s a brother to me. And he’s one of the few I’d trust with my baby.
Together we WILL take this label to the next level! So… who got demos?? Shoot ’em over to my new A&R! oscar@funkyfarm.us
